Scott was born on Wednesday, July 20 at 10:14pm. He weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19 ½ inches long. I was 38 weeks, 3 days pregnant.
The Story:
I had been dealing with gestational hypertension (GH) since 37 weeks. At my 38 week appointment on July 20, my BP was again elevated. My ob decided that it was time for Scott to be born. She feared that I could face another spike in my BP which could put him in danger.
At 5:00pm we arrived at the hospital. Scott was put on the fetal heart rate monitor, and my BP was tested every 30 minutes. My BP did stabilize down, which made everyone happy. Scott seemed to be doing good, though his monitor did record two drops in his heart rate in two hours but the doctor said that could have been caused by a weird position on the part of mom.
We were given two options: immediate c-section or attempted induction with pitocin. We were given the first option because my body did not seem “ready” for labor. I was only 2cm dilated, and Scott was still very high. Rob and I decided to try the induction since we both really wanted a vaginal birth for both benefit of mom and baby. We figured we could see what happened, and if I really was not making progress we could always stop the induction and go with the c-section.
At 8:00pm we started pitocin. At 8:45 we stopped it. The monitor picked up at least 5 fetal heart rate drops within 30 minutes. The doctor was afraid that Scott was not tolerating the induction very well, and was especially concerned that he was doing poorly before contractions even really started.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you are doing well. Scott is gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteLaura he is sooo handsome! I'm sorry you didn't get the exact birth experience you were hoping for. I know holding him in your arms, healthy, is all you ever wanted! Can't wait to hear all about him as he grows up.
