In January I will officially go back to work. I say "officially" because right now I am a stay-at-home-mom/ student. So far I am finding it quite tough to balance baby care with house care and school work. Beginning January, I'll also work outside the home: teaching U.S. History at a community college here in Virginia.
How will I ever juggle everything that I'm juggling now plus a brand new job?? How do mothers do this??
I am currently trying to get as much done on my dissertation as possible to hopefully get that off my plate. That, unfortunately, is dependent on 1.) whether or not Scott is having a "good" day and 2.) whether or not Rob can help out. He's super busy as well, balancing teaching new classes and dealing with the bureaucracy required of full-time professors.
The one consolation is that I have the ideal schedule. I will be working two nights a week (Monday and Wednesday) for 3 hours a night. The rest of my work will be done at home (lecture prep, quiz/test writing, and grading).
The only other "bad" thing is that I'm super anxious about teaching. Do I really know enough to teach at the college level?? Will my students disrespect me, or try to walk all over me?? Can I figure out how to be the nice, but hard teacher??
Laura you will do wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lauren, you will do great! Your students will respect you and it sounds like you know plenty!
