Yet another breast-feeding post...

There's been a lot of talk over the internet about Time magazine's provocative cover about extended breast-feeding.  Sigh.  I find the entire thing really annoying.  I've  now been breast-feeding Scott for almost 10 months.   I am very proud of us.   We've worked hard to go as long as we have.

It is hard to openly breast feed, though!  I have gotten some strange looks when I nurse in public.  I'm the type of mom who will nurse where ever,  whenever.   I've nursed at a battlefield (Antietam,  just today),  at the mall, in multiple parking lots,  in multiple restaurants, etc etc etc.  I have never (and would never!) nurse in a public bathroom.  I usually use a cover,  but will still nurse if I can't get to it.

This magazine cover just adds fuel to the fire.  It will likely confirm the opinion that breast-feeding is weird at any age.  It will likely also confirm the idea that nursing is inappropriate in public.  Sigh.  I myself would not breast-feeding post 2 years,  maybe even not over 1.5 years.  I just wish this Mommy War would end so I can go back to nursing my little guy in peace...

  1. I agree! It gives a perverted stigma to breast feeding that is sooo annoying! The picture sexualizes it, and that is sooo disgusting to me. It was not even a sweet picture that shows that a mother nurses her child for his benefit. It was almost like saying, "I'm going to nurse and I'm hot." It is not a depiction of breast feeding that is positive.
I plan to go at least a year but no longer than 1.5 or 2 also. But things like that magazine cover make people LESS comfortable with public breast feeding! I have female friends who won't even hang out with me while I nurse under a cover!! When did nursing become so taboo?
It's because of things like that that people hate breast feeding so much. :/
(Sorry for the tangent, woah! Lol!) I just think it sucks that I have to actually *ignore* the stares when I nurse under a cover in a restaurant or something. They wouldn't be staring if it were a bottle...
